About Our Instructor
Sabom Miguel Florez brings over 25 years of martial arts experience. Sabom Florez has been practicing Hapkido since 2005. In addition to Hapkido, Sabom Florez is also versed in Okinawan Karate Goju Ryu in which he has been practicing since 1986.
Okinawan Karate Goju Ryu Experience
In 1986, Sabom Florez started under Shihan Shunji Sudo Tanaka in Venezuela. With Shihan Tanaka, Sabom Florez starting competing in a handful of open tournaments which consisted of Tae Kwon Do, Karate, and Kung Fu practitioners. In order to acquire his mechanical engineering degree, Sabom Florez moved to the United States at the end of 1989.
With no Goju Ryu instructors in the United States, Sabom Florez started learning USA Goju. He would continue to learn Okinawan Karate during this time by making trips back to Venezuela. For the next several years, Sabom Florez continued competing in open tournaments. In 2009, he received his black belt in Goju Ryu Okinawan Karate from Shihan Tanaka. Shortly after, Sabom Florez received his black belt in USA Goju. Currently, Sabom Florez is a 3rd dan blackbelt.
Hapkido Experience
In 2002, Sabom Florez moved to Florida. Shortly after in 2005, Sabom Florez began his journey in Hapkido with Grandmaster In Wan Kim in Florida. Hapkido gave him the opportunity to take martial arts to a higher level. Hapkido translates to the way of harmonizing the energy.
Aside of his Martial Arts curriculum, Mr. Miguel Florez holds a mechanical engineering degree from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT)/ a concentration in nuclear physics and over twenty five years of successful professional career in the chemical industry.
